Non-porous, no coating, dishwasher-proof indefinitely; 304 grade resists the rust ring around a water bowl.

Its weakness is weight — a light steel bowl slides.

Ceramic: the weight answer

Mass stops the skidding, and fired decoration survives everything a dishwasher does.

It chips at the rim, and a chipped rim should be retired, not kept.

Plastic: the one we decline

Cheap, light, and it scratches — and the scratches hold bacteria through washing.

We do not sell it as a feeding surface, and this is the reason.

Choosing between the first two

Kennels, rescues and anywhere with a wash cycle: stainless.

Kitchens, gifts and enthusiastic eaters: ceramic.
